I love the anti-glare screen. It automatically changes from a daytime screen to a night screen making it easier to read. I like the fact that you can choose cities or zip codes when starting to put in an address; It's also great that it says the street name that you are going to turn onto. It's nice to be able to talk to it instead of having to touch the screen all the time while you are trying to drive, although the voice commands don't always work 100% of the time. I have an older Magellan and bought this one for my husband for a gift. I was really impressed how they have improved. I used it occasionally and was satisfied with it's performance. One day, about 2 month after the 1 year warranty expired, I turned the unit on. Simply depressing the tab, that activates the on/off switch, caused a failure of the unit, that is, I could no longer turn it on or off.The unit was not dropped or bumped in any way nor was any other physical force brought upon it. I contacted the president of Magellan since this was clearly a materials and/or design failure that should never have happened during the lifetime of this unit. Someone from the president's office called but outright refused any kind of action since the ordinary warranty had expired. If Magellan would have been willing to analyze the problem, they would have determined, that the micro switch, that is activated by the tab, was so flimsily attached to the printed circuit board, that the switch gave way under light pressure. I prefer my Megellan 1440 because of the highway sign lane assist. This one just tells you what side the exit is on with an arrow. I love the bluetooth feature, but even though the person I'm talking to can hear me, I have a hard time hearing them. I paired it with my cel phone quickly and easily and was able to use the unit to dial the phone. I only paid $92 including shipping for mines so that was a steal.It came with a wall charger/car charger/windshield mount, etc. With a 90 day factory warranty. I am very pleased and would highly recommend the Maestro or the 1440 to any beginner. |
